Our Story

The Brown Sugah Bash was created in the absence of suitable Gay Pride events for LGBTQ women of color.

Each year a collective of women work to bring the most anticipated event of the spring, The Brown Sugah Bash. Here local artists grace The Bash stage with immeasurable talents. Others travel from all parts of the U.S. to perform or share in the support of their peers. Here, like-minded creatives network, entertain, sell and sign merchandise, greet fans, and are allowed full expression of self. The Bash provides a safe space for creative expression, community outreach, and a celebration of life. Year after year The Bash has drawn more than 500 attendees who come with great anticipation and the knowledge that when the lights go out, they will leave full of the very things they sought after. This is a testament to the achievement of one of the goals of the BSB Committee - to make certain that by days end each attendee feels embraced by community, as if they've received a gentle hug. Summed up in a few words, The Bash is a huge backyard BBQ overflowing with music, poetry, dance, shopping, food, libations, and a lot of love.
